Snapping Out of It
Tonight's Full Moon see-saws us between surprise, sentimentality and sobriety
You’re reading WOODRUFF. I cover the convergence of pop culture, psychology, and astrology. Join my entourage of subscribers—you’ve been missed.
THE ASTRO WEATHER TONIGHT is wild.
The full Moon in Taurus is conjunct the fixed star Algol. The Moon’s light is also pulling Uranus in Taurus into the mix. All of this occurs while Saturn stations direct in Pisces. And it’s that shift that I want to focus on in this post.
How to untangle Saturn and Neptune in Pisces—an astrological koan of sorts. As I parse it, this is the struggle between vaporous ideals (Neptune) and the hard outlines that define what and how reality is configured (Saturn).
Naturally, it’s easy to see how this dynamic showed up after the US election. And not just for left-leaning folks. MAGA people are also processing this combo, and maybe in an even more unsettling way than the Dems. Why? Because when the balance is thrown so heavily onto one side of the scale, the only options left are various versions of a crash landing.
I can’t predict how these particulars will play out, but Saturn stationing direct tells us it’s ‘back to work’ time. I read that as turning away from the pundits, journalists, and ‘experts’ defining ’what happened’ for us.
Own your maturity. Sober up and reengage with life with purpose. Focus. Discriminate. Neptune in Pisces is akin to shaking up a snow globe and trying to track where each particle is floating and landing. It’s impossible to do. Reel everything in, return to the jurisdiction of your sovereignty. Make an effort to understand your longings for salvation. Is that a politicians responsibility? Projecting your aspirations on others makes you doomed for disappointment.
When Uranus and the Moon combine forces in a lunation like this, you will likely be surprised or unnerved by what your nocturnal life shows you. I know I was.
Last night, after going to bed early and then sleeping for ten hours (something I’ve been doing every night since the election—a response to the world that reminds me of my early 20s when I was constantly wrangling with existential angst—becoming depressed and then attempting to sleep it away) I immediately had a dream where I was on the top level of a bunk bed. I was studying a financial budget on a small whiteboard. Suddenly, as dreams are apt to do, Donald Trump was there with me.
Oddly, I had a fraternal, friendly vibe toward him while I engaged him in a convo about the numbers I was sharing with him on the board. Several times, I patted him on the back in a guy-guy sort of way.
When I woke up, I knew instantly that I had to confront my hatred towards Trump and start to reel that projection back in. Why? Well, because of the Saturn-Neptune-Pisces thing.
My shadow (Saturn) became active in the reverie (Neptune), and I needed to honor the dream and assume a more mature attitude. Meaning, who the fuck knows what Trump is going to do over the next four years. Do any of us? Do you?
And what about the fixed star Algol in the mix? Honey, I’m going to stop here. And you’ll thank me later.

WHAT I’M WATCHING: I took a break last night from binging season 3 of Apple TV’s Slow Horses (if you are longing for television that is both thrilling, intelligent and expertly performed, Slow Horses is your new show for the rest of the month) and got sucked into the HBO Max (what is HBO now, is it Max, or HBO Max, or just Max? No wonder streaming services are struggling, no one knows what platform they’re fucking watching) documentary Breath of Fire. This is another deep dive into another embarrassing and cringe-making cult, this one centered around grift queen Guru Jagat (gag), real name Katie Griggs. As a child and teen, Griggs was one of those obnoxious kids that their parents describe as ‘born to perform.’ The fact that her mother worked as a ‘therapeutic clown’ couldn’t have helped much. Griggs longed for a career that would put her in front of millions, and failing that, she gravitated into some kundalini yoga guru’s burgeoning scam and then ran wild with it as she sucked up more and more personal power (and money from clueless imbeciles). I recommend this show if you want a textbook accounting of how off-the-rails the entire New Age ‘wellness’ (gag) movement has become. But of course, it’s a story as old as the first bottle of snake oil. It amazes me how folks let their greed for ‘more’ get the best of them. More insight, heightened states, enlightenment, wellness, etc. What in the fuck is wrong with reality as it exists? It’s pretty strange, unfathomable, and fascinating on its own. The documentary is a sobering lesson in spiritual materialism made literal. Talk about more Saturn-Neptune mishegas. Oy.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: I’m preparing to wrap up my aptly titled Titanica: 2024 playlist on Spotify. Presently, it’s clocking in at 49 hours. Follow along here (and set to shuffle for optimal bliss.)
WHAT I’M PREPPING FOR WOODRUFF FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Sunday, I’ll record a convo with astrologer Nick Dagan Best, who, as you might recall, predicted Donald Trump for 2025 as way back as 2012 (if I’m remembering correctly). We’ll be discussing—well, take a guess! This will be a podcast for paying members.
Also slated: Astrologer Jessica Murray and I will sit down soon for a stream-of-consciousness close read on not only the election fallout but the fallout from the fallout. Imagine it! I also want to set up a Zoom date with Tarot scholar
to discuss her fascinating work with AI and the Tarot, and her takes on the election, especially as it relates to the readings we both did right before the election.Love,

yeah, I had the weirdest day ever subbing for special ed. The am was fantastic. The pm not so much. Boarded a bus for a fieldtrip, and 5 min down the road, the student next to me vomited. Me, being a Cap, was prepared with a plastic bag, gloves, and wipes. Teacher (another Cap, who was driving minibus) took the student back to school and I brought her to the nurse and wiped off her shoes. Got new bus, but as soon as we got off the bus to go eat ice cream which involved students crossing a busy parking lot, I noticed one student had not left the bus and now was locked on the bus. I felt proud of that quick insight (my Neptune opposition Moon in Taurus, ha!). Teacher thought that the student left on the bus was my fault and went into icky b mode, deciding to lecture me nonstop re it and then ride me on whatever she could construe for the next hour. Then, another student got sick-like and I had to be his bathroom partner.
By the end of the fieldtrip, looking at a sea of innocent faces drinking overly ornate and expensive $9.00 milkshakes, I had a migraine and was seriously questioning my life choices. Like, am I really this nice? Do I need to be some type of martyr? Can I stop buying crap, and stop working this second job, and simply live on my pension without cashmere or island trips? Should I be subbing regular ed which is minus field trips and all their inherent liabilities? Is the innocence of the students and trying to help worth the craziness that seems to define half of the teachers? Why do people think they can talk to me like that when I'm giving them all the energy that I have? How much natal mars retrograde do I really have, before I lose it?
I have Algol in Taurus natally within a degree of transiting Algol (and moon in Taurus) and I can only describe my inner state as controlled rage while trying to smile at the students and give them the best of me. I'm pretty sure they noticed the dichotomy.
Don’t forget the 16th Hecate is celebrated the queen of Witches. One must go to the crossroads and leave her chocolate cake. She is the mother of all Witches and of childbirth. No better time to honor her and call her forth 🩶🖤🩶
